Pre-AP®High School Math: Algebra I and Geometry Focus

This Pre-AP® High School Math course will focus on recognizing and analyzing the skills, concepts, and habits of mind needed for student success in current and future Pre-AP® and AP® math courses.

Pre-AP® is a registered trademark of the College Board, which was not involved in the development and delivery of this professional development.

The goals of the four-day session are to assist participants with:

  • Identifying the skills and teaching strategies necessary for success in their respective classrooms, and in future math classes
  • Focusing on specific topics appropriate for the Pre-AP student in Algebra 1 and Geometry.  This includes, but is not limited to: functions, mathematical models to represent and understand relationships, rate of change, using algebra to develop formulas, developing reasoned arguments, justifying formulas
  • Developing realistic and practical Pre-AP strategies to prepare their students for long-term academic success

Participants should bring the following:

All participants will need to bring a lap top.  Most participant materials will be digital.

Course Outline (Subject to Change):

The following is a rough outline of the topics that will be covered during the week.  It is designed to be fluid to meet the needs of the participants.  Topics might be moved to different days depending on the needs of the group.  Each day will have various hands-on activities included to illustrate the topics covered.  Because this course is covering two distinct math classes, participants must understand that activities will be presented that address one or both of those classes.
