Pre-AP® High School Math

Participants will acquire instructional strategies to build and expand skills, concepts and assessment methods in all Pre-AP Math courses that will prepare students for success in AP Calculus and/or Statistics.

The goals of the four-day session are to assist participants with:

  • Use of multi-representational approaches to examine problems algebraically, graphically, numerically and verbally
  • Use of technology to reinforce these relationships, to experiment and to develop concepts
  • Examining topics covered in each high school Pre-AP course, and showing how the material build from one course to the next
  • Creating formative and summative assessments to better prepare students for AP mathematics
  • Sharing best practices and designing Pre-AP problems and lessons in subject-area breakout sessions
  • Exploring online resources in a lab setting
  • Participation in classroom-based activities that tie together multiple concepts


Participants should bring the following:

  • Lap top 
  • Notebook paper or spiral notebook
  • Graphing calculator
  • (optional) 30 paper copies or an electronic copy of a favorite lesson or activity


Jill Bell Jill Bell is the BC Calculus and Algebra II teacher at South Gwinnett High School in Snellville, GA, just outside of Atlanta. A veteran of 28 years in the classroom, she has developed the Pre-AP and AP math programs at two of the former schools where she has worked, and has been teaching AP and Pre-AP Math for most of her teaching career.
